9 Days Gorillas and Chimpanzee Safari

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport

Arrival at Kigali International Airport in Ruanda. You will meet and be welcomed by your local Shoebill guide who will then drive you to the hotel.

If you arrive at midday you can have an optional city tours through Kigali.

Accommodation: Hotel 2000 (B, -, -) or similar midrange Lodge.

Day 2: Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast proceed to Lake Bunyonyi. At afternoon hike to the Batwa People (optional). These people have remarkable traditional stories to tell and most of all is their unique way of living and entertainment. Later relax at the lodge and enjoy the beautiful scenery punctuated by the terraced landscape.

Day 3: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After early breakfast you proceed to for Golden Monkey Tracking (optional). After Tracking you proceed to the home of the Mountain Gorillas, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is best known for superb gorilla tracking, but it also provides refuge to elephants, chimpanzees, monkeys and various small antelopes, as well as 23 bird species restricted to the Albertine.

Day 4: Bwindi NP – Gorilla Tracking

After breakfast, briefing, Gorilla tracking and if time allows, evening community walk and entertainment around the fire place by the locals. The Park is the home to the mighty forest giants the gorillas. This Impenetrable Forest is still one of the best virgin tropical rain forests in East Africa.

Accommodation: Ichumbi or Bakiga Lodge (B, L, D) or similar midrange Lodge.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth NP

You will have a game drive in Ishasha Wilderness in the morning where the Tree Climbing Lions are found, then continue to the world-famous Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Accommodation: Parkview Lodge (B, -, D) or similar midrange/high-end Lodge.

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth NP

After an early cup of tea or coffee morning game drive with Lion racking to the vast park for any chances of the early hunting cats, herds of elephants, antelopes, buffalos and many more. Return to the lodge for a full breakfast, free time, after lunch, launch cruise on the famous Kazinga channel where you get to the schools of Hippos, buffalos herds and a variety of beautiful water bird species like jacanas, fish eagles and pelicans along the channel. Enjoy the much feared crocodiles as they sun bath away.

Day 7: Kibale NP

After breakfast we begin our journey to Kibale Forest National Park for yet another exiting adventure. At afternoon you have a Swamp Tour. The Bigodi swamp is home to about 137 species of birds. It is rich in lush vegetation such as wild palms, figs and the dominant Polita Papyrus. The Bigodi Wetland Reserve is managed by the Kibale Association for rural development and environmental protection. If time is enough you can see the Crater Lakes.

Day 8: Kibale NP -Chimp Tracking

After breakfast, you will go for Chimp tracking and meet the rather real cousins of human beings. Several bird species are seen especially in the bigodi swamp. If you are a keen birder you will record a reasonably high number of different bird species. Notable are various monkeys that keep tossing from one tree to another as you walk along.

Day 9: Kibale to Entebbe

After breakfast transfer to Entebbe, proceed to the airport for your late departure flight back home or stay another night in Entebbe.
